This treatise analyzes modern cosmological and philosophical developments in terms of their significance for the future of Sufism. It questions the ongoing relevance of Neoplatonic concepts such as emanation and the body-soul dualism within Sufi cosmology. In this context, an alternative monistic model is considered as a methodological foundation for the theoretical formulation of Sufism, based on the theory of panpsychism. It is argued that a universal consciousness, permeating all facets of creation, could serve as a contemporary foundation for reinterpreting the unity of being (waḥdat al-wujūd). The treatise connects the spiritual depth of the Sufi tradition with modern philosophical discourses by drawing parallels between the mysticism of Ibn al-ʿArabī (d. 638/1240) and current panpsychist approaches.
